I'm no skater but this is pretty rad. Using a grant from Visit California, professional skateboarder Bob Burnquist built a floating skate park on the waters of Lake Tahoe.
Designed by Jerry Blohm and Jeff King, the ramp took over 300 man hours, 1,250 screws, and nearly 7,300 pounds of lumber. The team faced a variety of challenges ranging from leaks to proper weight distribution, however they were able to dial in the design to make the platform both buoyant and stable. Good enough for some real skating action by Burnquist and his buddies.
So while I'm jealous of friends on vacation for this long weekend. I'm also feeling very grateful to be living in the sunshine state, because we get awesome things like this. Happy 4th of July.
