Everything All the Time is one of my favorite albums of this decade. I would have caught Band of Horses at Outside Lands but I've banned music festivals in which parkas and thermals are involved. And honestly I wasn't sure how many of their original songs they'd play. But friends said they performed really well and most were satisfied by the set which included hits like The Great Salt Lake and The Funeral. It's too bad their music has much departed from that backwoods, heart-on-sleeve, sweeping indie sound. Their newest album, Mirage Rock, received a measly 4.0 rating on Pitchfork and sounds like a hollow ghost of their former self. So I leave you with one of my favorite tunes from their '06 debut. The lyrics aren't world changing but the music wraps you up in its notes and leaves you wanting more. Perfect for my sick day at home.
