Happy Holidays

In a few hours I'll be at home with the parents and for the first time in years, my sister and niece. Fearing the inevitable boredom that will come, I am packing several board games, puzzles, movies, magazines and a flask of whiskey.

When booking flights last week, my niece asked nervously "But um. What will we do at Grandma's for two whole days?"

To which my sister replied, "Let's ask Auntie Kimmie."

• Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas Is You: The must-have holiday song. Even if you hated her on MTV Cribs talking to those little lambs in a pink nightie, you will love her voice. I was this close to purchasing the entire album.

• Frank Sinatra - Santa Claus Is Coming to Town: It's not the holidays without Sinatra. Something you and your parents can both bond over, or at least just cheers to.

• A Charlie Brown Christmas - Linus & Lucy: For my generation, the "White Christmas" classic, which was shown on repeat from December until January. The kind of cartoon that makes you feel lucky to have friends.

• The Raveonettes - Come On Santa: Because I'm not always such a classic girl, here's a song for all  the hipsters. One of the better Christmas albums from a pop/rock/alt/other group looking to make extra bucks.

• Los Lonely Boys - Feliz Navidad: Oh, and I'm also about equal opportunity. Feliz Navidad!
